Cricket- More Of a Religion

In a country like our's, you can not like cricket, hate it even, or love it, you simply can't ignore it. You just cannot. Before this World Cup, even I didn't like cricket much. I hated it as a matter of fact. I only watched the Semi-finals and Finals, and that too because it was my country playing. I never thought cricket could be so interesting. I was literally hooked to the TV screen at the time of both the matches. I screamed my lungs out and went on the roads when India won. Every Indian did. :DBut coming to the point, I feel only cricket is given importance and no other sport. It's like Cricket is religion and all other sports, well just sports. Every single Indian- from the most high profile people to the people living in slums, all of them watch cricket, they know the players. And out national game, hockey? Do they even know who the caption of the Indian Hockey team is? I don't think so. I personally feel that cricket is given a lot of importance while the other sports are neglected. When the Hockey World Cup was going on, did anyone even bother to switch on their TV's and watch India play while when the ICC was on, everyone was glued to their TV screens, even people had taken half day off's from their offices. It's not like I'm against cricket or something, but I just think it's given undue importance. People have become SO obsessed with cricket that their moods and health also depend on the game. I recently read an article which said that there have been people who had heart attacks and died because their country lost a match, and some people committed suicide because of the same reason. It's okay to like a game and follow the matches, but I don't think too much of obsession is right. I mean should we let a game control our health and our moods? No, right? I want the people to recognize other sports as well and acknowledge the players who excel in them as well. and please, I do not say stop following cricket or anything, just give the other sports the importance they deserve.
Okay so this is enough for this post.i'll return with something new soon!Until then, Ciao ! :D

Too many questions, too few answers.

Francesca Lia Block once said “ In every girl is a goddess”. And I pretty much agree with her. But there are some people who don’t believe in this, people who think of the female gender as just burdens on the family. People who have no respect for girls, or women. There are some questions that have been haunting me. I want to ask these questions to those people who think girls are weak.

Question one.

Why are girls not given the right to be born?

In a country like ours, where Goddess Lakhsmi is worshiped, the girl child isn’t allowed to enter this world. People need to understand that she is the one who shapes the civilization and it is because of her, what the world is. When women are capable of doing anything and everthing, why this difference, merely because if a woman is abused or raped, the family respect is abolished? People need to change their old sick orthodox mindsets in order to make this nation a better place to live in. Our country has made a remarkable growth in various fields, but still, it represents the lowest sex ratio.

Question two.

Why deprive girls from being educated?

Lack of education forces the girl to be stuck in the slum, give up her dreams, her aspirations and go through the same trauma her mother, or any female member of the family did. If she isn’t educated, she is unable what she is capable of doing and develop civic sense. India has tremendous examples of women who rose from the ashes and still live in our hearts. Women like Rani Laxmi Bai and Mother Teresa, are few of the many. When a woman is capable of doing what a man can do, maybe better, then why not?

Question three.

How will life be going on, if seeds of life will be cut by the society itself?

Various advanced technologies like scan tests, ultrasounds, sonograms were developed, but many families used them to determine the sex of the unborn child. Female feticide is against the law, but still, this dreadful crime is still practiced in the rural areas of mainly Punjab and Rajasthan. Everyone wants a male child, simply because they think that when he grows up, he’ll be their caretaker and source of strength in old age. They think bringing up a female child is a burden .They need to understand she is not a curse for the society; she carries the beginning and the end, within herself. She is the most beautiful creation. She deserves everything males do.

Question four.

Why should the women in our country not be treated at par with the men?

For some, women are just maids, who are expected to do all the household chores, sit in the house, have no friends, who are deprived the right empowerment, nutrition, to live a life with dignity and honour at every stage of her life, and still should not complain. Is it fair? Not even one bit. When a male child is born in a family, everyone is celebrating, but when it is a girl everyone is mourning. A male child is gifted with all kinds of toys, sumptuous food, neat and clean clothes to wear and a chance to go to school, while a girl doesn’t even have the right to live. Why?

Question Five. The final question

If there isn’t a daughter today, how do you expect there to be a son tomorrow?

Enough Said.

Life as I know it...

Life is tough, it’s unfair. But, life’s beautiful, it’s worth all the pain, and you should know how to enjoy every moment of it. Things might go wrong, people might change, people might lie to you, but then everything happens for a reason, a good reason. Things go wrong so that you can realize their importance, people’s priorities change so that you can learn to let go, and they lie to you so that you’re careful to trust people the next time and you can judge them more accurately.

Eventually, people are gonna take undue advantage of you, and are gonna hurt you, really bad, you’ll lose faith in everything and feel like the most helpless person on this earth, but you got to fight and bring back life on track, back to normal. And always remember, it’s all for the good, you can at least make out that who’s fake and who’s not, you can make out that who’s a true friend and who’s not. It might not be easy at that time, but you’ll be okay. And things will start to fall in place.

Everybody has bad times, problems and difficulties in life, but that doesn’t mean you give up, you should always keep trying, and one day, things will be just the way you want them to be. And one thing, NEVER EVER HAVE REGRETS, because at that point of time, that was all you wanted to do, and that was what you thought is right. Later, you may find out that you made a mistake, but then it’s human to make mistakes and you learn with every mistake you do. And it’s a part of life, so it doesn’t matter. I’ve learnt that the worst times can bring out the best in you; they can tell you how strong you are, and you can fight for what you want or love.

Sometimes you may feel that your world is falling apart, everything’s going wrong, and you’ve lost the people whom you thought you never would. But can you change people or the way they think? No. So, why to cry over something that’s done, instead just learn to let go, learn to move on, because that’s the best you can do, right? And once you’ve moved on, you’re happier and you realize what mistakes you’ve made in the past, but it helped you grow, so don’t feel bad or anything. And remember, you don’t need to worry about the people in your past, there’s a reason they’re not with you today, maybe they didn’t deserve you.

But looking at the positive side of this, you realize that there are some people who actually care for you and will always be beside you, who will fight for you, and never betray you. And don’t cry that it happened, smile that it’s over. At the end of the day, friendship ain’t about hanging out together, clicking pictures, bitching about people and telling others you’re friends, it’s about being there, actually, when you need each other, when you need someone to help you solve a problem, when you need someone to help you make it through, when you need someone to comfort you, to wipe away your tears and tell you that things will be okay, someone who’ll not only be there with you to enjoy your happy days, but will be there for you on rainy days. These people are your true friends, and trust me, it’s better to have a few true friends, rather than having 100 fake friends.

Life’s too short to be sad or depressed about people who don’t even care about you. Instead, cherish whatever you have, and enjoy with the people you have, and make the most of it. Live like it’s the end of the world and no matter what you lose never lose that smile on your face =]

And if I sum up whatever I’ve learnt about life, I can do that in three words- IT GOES ON…

Nationals 2011 :)

Getting selected for the National School Games to represent Chandigarh, pretty amazing, eh? Well, I did. And these were the 6 days were the best memories. Memories which will last a lifetime. And there are pictures to remind us, so we never forget. :)
Everything seems like yesterday when we reached Pune, it all went by so fast, faster than i had imagined it to.
But we'll always cherish these memories. :D
And now, it's all back to normal, the same old routine, and I hate it.
Wearing that Chandigarh jersey makes me feel so proud, so good, so magical.
Overall, it was a VERY good experience. Sharing a room with 4 others was pretty tough though, but we managed somehow :P I got to know a lot of new people, cheered like hooligans for my team, bonded with friends, and well did stuff that I never would. It was all so amazing. Right from the opening, to the long walks, to eating the whole tub of Ice-cream to eating Subway/Domino's everyday and not even touching the mess food to calling each other names, to clicking endless amount of pictures to almost surviving on Coke to laughing at random people to listening to songs 24/7, even during matches to making fun of the other teams :P to eating 'Chotelal Best Kulfi' . It was one hell of an experience.
I'll miss our walks and talking till late nigh about almost everything, Saaaanya.
Thank you guys, for making this so special :D
I'll never forget these Nationals, and..
These memories are never gonna fade, NEVER.

2010 :)

2010 – Perfect year. Even though I had my share of down’s. Everyone has them. But ain’t life about facing your down’s with a smile on your face and your up’s with humbleness. I think I did. This year, I fought with my best-friend; I lost some of my VERY good friends, all because of silly things & messed up my life. But then I fought for my best-friend, made loads of new friends, friends who are gonna last a lifetime & I got life back on track. Most of all, I’m happy with what I am, today. A lot more wise than last year. This year has done a lot good for me. It made me realize that I can’t really trust people very easily. I can’t take people for granted. I can’t expect them to be always good to me when I don’t even talk to them properly. I can’t expect them to always understand me and my problems ignoring their own difficulties and problems.

But then, I had the most memorable times of my life. Times which were just…PERFECT. Get-together’s with old friends, bonding and knowing that they haven’t forgotten you. This year passed very fast, faster than I had expected it to. It seems like yesterday when we had this lil’ New Year party last year . And well, it’s New Year’s Eve tomorrow. 2010’s goin’ to end. But all the good times, bittersweet memories, are gonna stay, forever. This year, I changed, for the good. I grew up. Those petty things don’t matter too much now. Those unwanted people, and the drama they brought along, don’t matter. I’ve realized that the world will say what they have to, no matter what. But it’s your decision to listen to all that crap or just ignore it and MOVE ON. I learnt that you shouldn’t get very attached to somebody; they’re going to hurt you. Real bad. And moving on will be very tough, but there’s nothing you can do about it. You just have to live with it. And just find happiness in life. And always remember that even if you fail once, try again, and again, until you succeed, Life’s beautiful and there’s a lot to smile about. There are people who care and will never want to see you sad. So, if you don’t want to live for yourself, live for them, their happiness. Never give up. And if you want to, just think why you held so long! (:

I wish you all a very Happy New Year. May you get all what you hope for.

She. ;]

She dreams of a world where no one can tell her what's wrong what's right,

A world where there'll be no black or white.

A world where people will realize not everyone's prefect,

A world where people will not choose or select.

She chooses a world where no one will play with her feelings,

A world where no one will take her emotions for a ride.

A world where her emotions and feeling will have a meaning.

She chooses to see the world in bright bold colours; She chooses to see light.

A Friend Indeed.

I pay a tribute to my friend, Ipshita whom I was associated only last year, but it seemed that we had been friends since the past so many years. She always had a smile on her face and a spark in her eyes. Though she was an introvert , she was always ready to lend a helping hand. Her passion was to string tunes on her guitar. She never caused any harm or trouble to anyone. She was a very happy-go-lucky type of a girl. And on August 28th 2010, she left us all shattered and heartbroken. She had left for her heavenly abode. When her tragic news was announced in the school, we all were shattered, wondering why did her kindling light fade so soon? Why wasn’t she able to enjoy life? We had never imagined even in our vaguest dreams that such a thing could happen to a girl who was only 11 years old. A girl like her, who was an optimistic person, who had enjoyed the short journey of her life . No one ever knew that destiny could be so cruel to have snatched life from someone who hadn’t been able to know what life is, someone who couldn’t even enjoy her full life. No one can ever understand the pain her parents and sister whom she left behind are going through. The few wishes she had were fulfilled. She was recently gifted with a mobile phone which she used to keep in touch with her school-mates in her last days as she missed school due to her illness. She longed to come back to school and celebrate her return, she quoted this on her Facebook profile. But, God willed otherwise. We all are still shocked HOW could this happen? WHY? Why Ipshita? Why not someone else? But, as they say what has to happen, WILL happen. Everything is in the hands of Almighty and everything will be according to how He wants it to be. And maybe, there is something good in whatever happened. If I had one wish, it’d be to bring back Ipshita, who was not only a friend, but a sister too. She has left only memories with all of us. Good or Bad. All her things, her books, her bed, her clothes, her school bag, everything will remind us of her. She was someone no one can forget. She was indeed a true friend. She was and always will be special to me. Her smile, I can never forget that smile. Without her, in the classroom, too, everything would feel so empty, so unfilled, so dull, and so incomplete. Ipshita endeared all. When I visited her home, I found her mother full of pain and sorrow. She was visibly broken and shattered but she recounted her daughter’s last few hours. It was tragic to hear the account. Her elder sister, was expressionless and without words. It was as if they had lost everything. We, at school observed silence and prayed for her today. She is gone but she will live in our memories. Her smiling face, cheerful habits and friendly nature will always keep her memory alive. When we prayed for her, all of us with moist eyes prayed to God to give her parents the strength to bear the shock. The school lost a brilliant pupil and the parents a loving child. The question I ask ‘Why did it happen’. I do not know the answer, but it is God’s will and her destiny. May her soul Rest In Peace. Friends and companions , whom you see everyday become a part of you. I cannot imagine that Ipshita is no more. Very much wanting to be present on her last journey, I cannot gather the courage to be with her when she is consigned to flames. With a tear in the eye. And a prayer on my lips, I bid her a silent goodbye. She is gone, but she will live in our memories, in our hearts with her deeds and her good qualities. I pray to God to give me her company again in her next birth.
